Press Conference – IFMA World Championships
A huge press delegation gathered at the IFMA Press Conference for news and updates regarding the upcoming 2009 IFMA World Championships, shared by H. E. General Pichitr – Privy Councilor of His Majesty the King, General Chetta Thanajaro – President of the World Muaythai Council (WMC), Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan – President of IFMA and Stephan Fox – General Secretary of IFMA.
Over 1,100 athletes and officials from over 82 countries are expected to be participating and each country is to represent each year in His Majesty the King of Thailand‘s life.
The Championships will be a direct qualifier for the upcoming 2010 Sportaccord Combat Games in Beijing, in which the 13 Sportaccord recognized Combat sports will participate in.
Besides from the extravagant Gala Dinner, which is to be held on the 3rd of December at the Grand Ayudhya Hotel, there‘s also the upcoming IFMA executive board meeting and AGM.
The finals, also known as The King‘s Cup, will be held on December the 5th outside the King‘s Palace where over 300,000 spectators are expected as December 5th is also the birthday of His Majesty the King.
Thailand and the rest of the world have been equally excited about this event and surely, they will not have to wait that much longer..

Over 1,500 athletes and officials will be travelling to Thailand to participate in the IFMA 2009 World Championships, held in honour of His Majesty the King’s 82nd Birthday. These athletes will have a chance to compete for 11 direct entries to the 2010 SportAccord Combat Games, in which 13 world recognized martial arts will take part in this prestigious event.
The championships will be held at The Mall Ngamwongwan with the fights take place daily, from 14.00 – 21.00 hrs. Besides the competitions, there will also be a Muaythai Expo and Gala Dinner, leading up to the finals on December 5th which coincides with His Majesty the King’s Birthday. The finals will be televised in over 180 countries with over 300,000 live audiences.

Today was the first day of the IFMA World Championship in Bangkok with the opening ceremony! Over 80 member countries walked in with their flags to compete in the 2009 Championships. The first preliminary fights were also held today. At the Expo you can find all you need about Muay Thai. Gear from MTG, Fairtex, Nationman, Kombat, Contender and others. Also information about training camps, dvd’s, muay thai paintings and a lot more. If you are in Bangkok or have the chance to have to go there in the next days, don’t miss to have a look. The championships are taking place at the Ngamwongwan Mall in Nontaburi across the street from Pantip Plaza.

The IFMA World Championships are over. Thailand took the most gold medals in the light weight catergories and Belarus was the country that dominated most of the heavy weight events. Other countries that took home gold medals are Ukraine, Morocco, Australia, Russia, Turkey.

IFMA 2009 World Muaythai Championships
The 2009 IFMA World Championships was a great success as over 200,000
spectators attended the closing of the 2009 IFMA World Championships,
also known as The King‘s Cup, held in honour of His Majesty the King of
Thailand‘s 82nd birthday.
Over 1,400 athletes, officials and representitives from 82 national
federations travelled to Bangkok to be part of this glorious event.
After 9 days of figthing in 3 rings for 8 hours each day, it was clear on the last day that
Belarusia was the most victorious team by winning the team competition and by that
making Thailand come in 2nd in the Male division.
It was Morocco who won the Female division and Canada came in 2nd.
The Best Male Boxer Award went to Sattra Paleenarm from Thailand and The Best
Female Boxer award went to Miriam Nakamoto from USA.
The Best Male Wai Kru award went to PanupunTanjad from Thailand and it was
Hui Theng Nicole Chua from Singapore who won The Best Female Wai Kru.
The Best Prospect Male-B award went to Mirzhanov from Kazakhstan.
The Best Prospect Junior Male award went to Gokhan Kilic from Turkey and
The Best Junior Female award went to Amy Wendy Robert Sun Prinie from Scotland,
winning it for the 2nd consecutive year.
This shows that muaythai has indeed become international and in 2010 we will
witness yet another spectacular IFMA World Championships.
Congratulations to the Amateur Muaythai Federation of Thailand for hosting this
highly successful event.
